do less. live more.

It’s that time of year…In our house, we are getting ready for the biggest academic milestone of them all, kindergarten. In preparing for the transition, we’ve received reams of paper from our local school. Perhaps this is a nod to the fact that this transition is as significant for parents as it is for children. Among the emotional nuances, there are also practical considerations: How best to say goodbye to beloved preschool teachers? And how best to help new teachers start the year on the right foot?

Below are suggestions from teachers regarding the things they really want and need to start the school year off right. Hope you all have a great first day!

  • tissues

  • hand sanitizer

  • bleach wipes

  • pencils

  • markers

  • watercolor paints

  • books (for early childhood classrooms)

  • puzzles (also early childhood)

  • printer paper

  • construction paper

  • stickers

  • flair pens (I had to look these up…colorful felt tip pens)

  • plants for the classroom

  • bulk candy (or other items for student rewards and prize boxes)

  • gift cards to Amazon or large box stores

  • extra wipes and diapers (infant toddler classrooms)
