Bear Snores On
In these days of chilly weather, there is little that is more satisfying the snuggling up with a warm blanket, a warm baby and a good book. Bear Snores On (written by Karma Wilson and illustrated by Jane Chapman) is an excellent book for just such an afternoon. This is book gets two thumbs up from both my toddler judges, ages 1.5 and 3.5.
Bear Snores On features a hibernating bear whose lair is slowly occupied by his friends, as they shelter from a cold snowy night. They have a grand old time in the bear's cave, until they accidentally wake the bear up! At first bear is angry, then mournful, but is quickly brought in on the festivities, though with deleterious effects on his winter's nap. The book's illustrations and story line are perfect for a winter read, and my youngest enjoys the variety of creatures, voices and especially the loud sound that marks the turning point of the story (which I won't give away). Grab this book, a hot chocolate and Read On!
