SEEDLINGS: CELLpops Early Literacy Resources

As a PT, a parent, and a writer, watching a child's self-expression and communication emerge is both fascinating and exciting. It always feels that a mystery is being revealed when a person begins to speak--whether that's a child who's first learning to talk, an older person recovering from a stroke, or a person who has just received a communication device for the first time. That's why I was drawn to these CELLpops, literacy activities for children of varying ages, developed by the Center for Early Literacy Learning. The CELLpops can be viewed online or downloaded and printed as posters. Each gives easy, practical ideas for incorporating literacy activities into daily life.

According to their Website, the Center for Early Literacy Learning strives to promote evidence-based interventions to enhance literacy among young children (0-5 years old) with developmental delay, disabilities, or those who are at-risk for poor outcomes. The Center for Early Literacy Learning is part of the Orelena Hawks Puckett Institute, with centers in Asheville and Morganton, NC. The Institute seeks to improve the health and functioning of families.
